Good News for Tipperary Town as Bypass Progresses – Hayes

South Tipperary T.D. has strongly lobbied the Minister for Transport and the NRA to push forward with the planning stages for the Tipperary bypass.

“I have pushed hard for this project to be retained as as part of future government investment in infrastructure, with both the Noel Dempsey, the Minister for Transport and with Fred Barry, the CEO of the NRA. As a result, I have received confirmation that, in a week when many other road projects are being cancelled or deferred, the Tipperary Bypass (the N24 Pallasgreen to Bansha scheme) is to be retained as a project for future investment.

“Funding has been confirmed to continue the work on Compulsory Purchase Orders and Environmental Impact Study documentation, which are both essential to the progress of this project. The documentation should be concluded by 2011, which will open the project up to moving to the next stage. I am very pleased to have this confirmed to me by the NRA and I think that it is great news for Tipperary town to be progressing with the bypass, especially when so many other projects have been shelved.

“Any person travelling through Tipperary Town can testify to the traffic-bottleneck if has become over the last decade and this needs to be rectified for the local business community and people travelling through the town, not to mention locals whose daily lives are held up as a result of the very heavy traffic.

“With 9473 people in South Tipperary forced to sign on the dole every week, a project like this would be are vital for the infrastructure of South Tipperary and Tipperary Town – but it would also be a hugely positive job creation measure. The government simply must be serious about economic recovery – the key to achieving it is investment in infrastructure like the Tipperary Town bypass to develop our country,” Tom Hayes concluded.
